The disease Ataxia definition causes symptoms and treatment

THE DEFINITION OF

Ataxia often comes up when a part of the nervous system that controls movement suffered damage. People with ataxia experience a failure of control muscles of the hands and feet, resulting in a lack of balance and coordination or gait disorders (Glucosamine/chondroitin Arthritis Intervention Trial).

Friedreich ataxia is a disease that causes damage to the progressive decline of the nervous system that causes a distraction problem and spoke to the gait of heart disease. The disease is named after physician Nicholaus Friedreich like, who first described the condition in 1980.

Ataxia which is a coordination disorders such as clumsy or awkward movements and not sturdy, appearing on many diseases and conditions.

Friedreich ataxia is caused the decline of nerve tissue in the spinal nerve (spinal cord) and the nerves that control muscle movement in the arms and legs. Nerve fibres become thinner and nerve cells lose their myelin fibres.

Ataxia Friedriech, though rarely are the most frequent inherited ataxia and occur in women and men with the same risk.

THE CAUSE OF

Most of the disorders that produce ataxia caused part of the brain called the cerebellum (little brain) deteriorated or atrophy. Sometimes the spinal nerve (spinal cord) is also affected. Degeneration of the serebelar and spinosereberal used to describe the changes that occur in the human nervous system, but not a specific diagnosis. Degeneration of serebelar and spinosereberal have many causes.

SYMPTOMS

Symptoms and time of onset depends from the type of ataxia. There are many variations even within the same family with the same type of ataxia. Recessive disorders commonly cause symptoms that started in childhood than adulthood.

However, in the last years, since genetic tests available, is known to occur when the Friedreich ataxia adulthood in some cases. Dominant ataxia often appear at the age of 20 years old to 30 years old or even older. Sometimes individuals may not show symptoms until the age of 60 years.

Typically balance and coordination are affected first. The lack of coordination of the hands, arms and legs and the ability to speak is another common symptom. Walking becomes increasingly difficult and marked by a walk by placing the legs further and further to compensate for poor balance.

Impaired coordination of arms and hands affect a person's ability to do a good motion controls such as writing and eating. Slow eye movements can be seen in some form of ataxia. As time went on, ataxia can affect the ability of speaking & swallow.

Ataxia is an inherited degenerative disorder that develops over the next few years. How severe and likely culminate in death depends on the type of ataxia, the age of the start of symptoms and other factors just a little understood at this time. Respiratory tract complication can be fatal in people who are bed bound?? or has severe swallowing problems.

DIAGNOSIS

Friedreich ataxia diagnosis made on the basis of clinical examination including medical history and physical examination. Tests performed include:

* An electromyogram (EMG), which measures the electrical activity of the muscle cells.
* Nervous delivery Study, which measures the velocity of nerve stimulation continues.
* An electrocardiogram (ECG), which delivers electrical activity or graphic patterns of heart rate
* An Echocardiogram, which records the position and movement of the heart muscle.
* Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan or computed tomography (CT) scan, which provides images of the brain and spinal cord nerves.
* Beats the spine (spinal tap) to evaluate the cerebrospinal fluid.
* Blood tests and urine to see rising levels of glucose.
* Genetic tests to identify genes that are affected.

TREATMENT

Along with many degenerative diseases in the nervous system, there is no cure or effective treatment for Ataxia Friedriech. However, many of the symptoms and complications can be treated to help patients maintain optimal function for as long as possible. Diabetes, if any, can be treated with diet and drugs such as insulin and some of cardiovascular disease can also be treated with drugs.

Problems such as foot and deformitis orthopedi Scoliosis can be addressed by means of the amplifier or the operation. Can physical therapy lengthening the use of arms and legs. Investigators hope advances in understanding the genetic ataxia Friedriech can be a solution in the treatment.

PREVENTION

Genetically inherited disease cannot be prevented. However, much research is currently being conducted to understand the disease further.
