THE HUNTINGTON DISEASE

HUNTINGTON DISEASE SYMPTOMS

A. DEFINITIONS
Ø Name of the disease is taken from the first George Huntington first described the tahun1872.
Ø Huntington's disease (Huntington korea) is a hereditary disease in which the jerk or spasm and loss of brain cells gradually begin to appear in middle age and develop into Korean, atetosis and mental deterioration.
Ø Huntington's disease is a neurodegenerative genetic disorder that affects muscle coordination and causes a decrease in muscle and dementia (dementia), which is slowly but surely lead to death. Huntington chorea disease

B. RISK FACTORS
Each child of an affected parent has a 50% chance of inheriting penyakit.Pada rare situations where both parents have an affected gene, or either parent has two affected copies, this chance is greatly increased.

C. Etiology
The gene for Huntington's disease is dominant children of parents who suffer from this disease have a 50% chance of developing Huntington's disease.
This is the most common genetic cause of abnormal involuntary writhing movements called chorea. It is much more common in people of Western European descent than in those from Asia or Africa. The disease is caused by a dominant mutation in one of two copies of a particular gene, located on chromosome 4. In the rare situations where both parents have the affected gene, or either parent has two affected copies, this chance is greatly increased.
Huntingtin gene normally provides the genetic code for a protein that is also called "huntingtin". Mutation of the Huntingtin gene codes for a different form of the protein, whose presence resulted in gradual damage to specific regions of the brain. The proper way this occurs is not fully understood. THE HUNTINGTON DISEASE
